Very good results from both supermarkets last week with sales and profit increases beyond expected levels. This for a number of reasons including good sales growth, from increased market share ex SMEs, about double inflation price growth as witnessed by the in the increase of gross profit, and the continued expansion of range and offers. The market share growth is a concern for specialty retail and how they compete in a tough market.
